UCU Mbale University College

History of UCU, Mbale University College

Uganda Christian University, Mbale University College had its humble beginnings in 2003 with three staff and 46 students offering only Business Administration and Social Science programmes both at degree and diploma levels.

In 2006, the Uganda Christian University, Buwalasi/Mbale Study Centre, as it was then called, acquired former Nabuyonga Primary School premises with the help of the Mbale diocese (Anglican) in 2009. In 2016, the Campus became a Constituent College of Uganda Christian University.

Although largely undeveloped with a few lecture rooms, a nearly empty library and without hostel facility, the Study Centre took advantage of its location in the heart of Mbale town to grow in academic stature by introducing evening programmes to cater for the working-class as well as expanding the academic programmes.

Faculty and Staff
The University College consists of a unique faculty and staff who are fervent about learning, innovation and research. The lecturers are extremely passionate while teaching, committed to our long-standing and respected vision “A Centre of Excellence in the Heart of Africa.” They seek to infuse the same kind of energy and passion into their students.
To enhance research excellence, the college now has over eight staff with PhDs and more have enrolled in different universities to pursue their doctorates.

Infrastructure
The University College envisions training and developing empowered graduates through a unique blend of academic rigour and the best infrastructural facilities to help build up a calibre of graduates capable of responding to the relentless challenges of modern workplaces effectively and efficiently.

Future plans
The University College plans to move its infrastructure to one of the best in the region along with a highly qualified and market-oriented faculty. It has just completed the construction of a modern library and lecture block fully equipped with relevant books and connected to online educational resources. Students now spend considerable amount of time referring to educational and research journals online.
The University College is also connected to Wi-Fi that is accessible from many points of the College grounds. The internet is fast, allowing live streaming and positively enhancing the learning environment
