Mrs. Elsie Mirembe Nsiyona

She joined UCU as a Tutorial Assistant in 2010 and is now is a Lecturer and Head of Department, Management and Entrepreneurship in the Faculty of Business and Administration. In that position, she oversees the development of a new Department of Economics and Statistics in the faculty, curriculum review of new programs in the department and initiates collaborations with professional bodies and other institutions to enhance instruction and curriculum for the department, among other duties.

She previously worked as Internship Coordinator at the Faculty of Business and Administration.

As a lecturer, she has taught several programs at both graduate and undergraduate levels and has supervised three cohorts of 15 research students each, to successful completion of their research projects.

She has published three books and researched and consulted in the area of trade.  Her research interests are in the area of Public Sector Economic Policy, Managerial Economics, Resource and Environment Economics and Agricultural Economics.

She is a member of several professional affiliations including Association for the Advancement of Women Economists (AAAWE), African Econometric Society (AES), Uganda Teachers’ Association and Social Science Research Network.

She holds a master’s degree in Economic Policy and Planning and a Bachelor of Arts with Education (Economics, Geography) both of Makerere University, among other qualifications.

Before joining UCU, she was a part-time Lecture at the College of Business and Management Sciences, Makerere University.

Earlier on, she worked as a secondary school teacher at Kololo SS, St. Maria Gorreti S.S Katende and Kampala S.S, and served as National Examiner, Economics and Geography in the Uganda National Examinations Board.

As a teacher, she also served in several other roles including as Head of Department, Business Education (Economics, Commerce, Accounts), and Senior Woman teacher at St. Maria Gorretti S.S Katende.

She wears another hat as Chairperson, Advisory Board, Vision for Africa International Hotel Management School, Kiyunga and has been Vice-Chairperson, Mothers’ Union, Bweyogerere Parish, Luzira Archdeaconry, Namirembe Diocese; Chairperson, Mothers’ Union, St Luke’s Church of Uganda, Kakajjo-Bweyogerere; and Secretary, Mothers’ Union, St Luke’s Church of Uganda, Kakajjo-Bweyogerere.
