Dr. Kanyesigye is a Senior Lecturer and Dean, School of Medicine at Uganda Christian University. He has over 30 years’ experience in the medical and public health disciplines. During that time, he has worked in the public service for over 20 years and over 10 years in the private sector.
His areas of interest include university lecturing, training, management consultancies and health promotion. Dr. Kanyesigye has authored and co-authored several articles which have been published in reports and journals.
He holds a Master of Public Health, University of Adelaide, Australia; Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery, Makerere University; and Diploma in Public Health, Institute of Public Health (Uganda).
Dr. Kanyesigye has previously served as Head of Department of Health Sciences, Uganda Christian University. He has also been External Examiner, Master of Public Health for Makerere School of Public Health (2002 to-date); External Examiner, Bachelor of Public Health, Bishop Stuart University (2011 to–date); and Assessor (in accreditation of programmes in Medicine and Public Health) for the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) (2010 to-date).
He is also the Chairman of the Governing Council, Paramedical Training School of Uganda (now renamed: Uganda Institute of Allied Health and Management Sciences (UIAHMS). This is a position appointed by the Minister of Education and Sports.
Dr. Kanyesigye is also the President of Uganda Public Health Specialists’ Association; member of Governing Council, Mildmay Uganda Institute of Health Sciences; and member of the Board of Directors, Coalition for health Promotion and Social Development (HEPS-Uganda).
He has previously worked as Senior Lecturer at the International Health Sciences University (IHSU) within International Hospital Kampala (IHK); Health Sector Consultant and Management Advisor, International Hospital Kampala (2008-09); Manager, AMREF/Irish Aid Primary Health Care and Training Project (July 2004-2008); Behavioral Scientist, Medical Research Council (UK) Programme on Research on AIDS in Uganda; and Assistant Director of Medical Services (Training), Ministry of Health, Entebbe.
Others are Manager of WHO Health Learning Materials (HLM) Project, Senior Medical Officer (Training), and Medical Officer in different areas in Uganda. Dr. Kanyesigye has been party to several consultancy projects in the health sphere and is a member of Uganda Medical Association and Uganda Public Health Specialists Association.
