He has worked as a Lecturer at Uganda Christian University and Makerere University and as a secondary school teacher in various schools.

The Rev. Dr. Rugyendo has authored and co-authored several publications in peer-reviewed journals, and chapters in books. He has supervised over 50 students at both graduate and undergraduate levels at Makerere University and Uganda Christian University to completion.

Other academic responsibilities held in his teaching career include Examinations Coordinator, Religious Studies Department, Makerere University; and Examiner of postgraduate students. He also served on several committees at Makerere University. He has also served as External Examiner, Bishop Stuart University and Kyambogo University. He is a member, Uganda Christian University Council and Chairman, Board of Governors, Kigezi High School, Kabale.

He has attended and presented at conferences in Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Zambia, USA, Nigeria, Benin, South Africa and Namibia, among others.

Before his current posting, he served UCU in different capacities including as Dean, Faculty of Education and Arts and as Head of Department in the Faculty of Education and Arts.

He has also worked a clergyman during which he served St Luke’s Chapel, Mulago Hospital as Associate Chaplain and member of Kigezi Diocesan Council.

Dr. Rugyendo is a member of the Scripture Union Uganda, Uganda Christian Teachers Association, Association of Theological Institutions in Eastern Africa, Ecumenical Association of Third World Theologians, International Association for the Promotion of Christian Education (IAPCHE) and Centre for Promotion of Christian Education.
