He is a Professor of Systematic and Historical Theology, Uganda Christian University and Dean, Bishop Tucker School of Divinity and Theology.
He has undergone postdoctoral studies in Principled Public Leadership at the John Jay Institute for Faith, Society and Law (USA) and postdoctoral studies in Mission and Ministry at the Overseas Ministries Study Center (USA). Prof. Byaruhanga has a Doctorate of Theology (ThD) of The General Theological Seminary, New York City (USA.) He also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Makerere University), Bachelor of Divinity (Association of Theological Institutions in Eastern Africa) and a Diploma in Theology (Makerere University).
He has made dozens of paper presentations, article and book publications and attended conferences and seminars. He has written and published eight books, reviewed seven books and written several book chapters. Prof. Byaruhanga has been a conference speaker and has presented conference papers in Uganda, Kenya, Canada, USA, Brazil, South Africa, Norway, Ghana and Italy. He has also attended conferences in the United Kingdom, Tanzania, Ethiopia and Japan.
He has won several awards and recognitions in the area of book writing, scholarly writing, fellowship and studies. He has been a fellow at the John Jay Institute of Faith, Society and Law and a Washington Scholar at the Family Research Council in Washington, DC. He has also been a Fulbright Scholar in the USA.
He has supervised and examined dozens of students at a doctorate and master’s level at Uganda Christian University, Makerere University, Kyambogo University, University of South Africa and South African Theological Seminary, among others.
He has served as editor for leading journals including the Uganda Journal by the Uganda Society. For the last 11 years, he has been a member, Curriculum Review Committee of the National Council for Higher Education and was a member of Church of the Province of Uganda Constitution Review Committee.
Before his current posting, he worked as Dean, School of Research and Postgraduate Studies, Adjunct Professor of Systematic Theology (Trinity School for Ministry, USA), Associate Professor of Systematic and Historical Theology (Uganda Christian University), Dean, Faculty of Education and Arts (Uganda Christian University) and founding Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Uganda Christian University.
He earlier on served as Senior Lecturer and Head of Department of Education and Lecturer, Department of Theology and Divinity, Uganda Christian University.
In the past, he has been Diocesan Secretary, Bunyoro-Kitara Diocese; Lecturer and Head of Professional Studies, National Teachers College Masindi; and Chaplain/Teacher and Acting Headmaster, Naigana Church Secondary School.
He has served on several committees at UCU as member Academic Board, Graduate Board; Academic Promotions Committee; Liaison Coordinator, Dictionary of African Christian Biography; Faculty Representative to the UCU Council; member of the University Senate; and a member of the Vice Chancellor's Cabinet.
At the international level, he was between 2002 and 2009 a member of the Postgraduate Supervision Team of the Oxford Center for Mission Studies, which is an affiliated institution of the University of Wales. Since 2009 to date, he has been a PhD examiner of the University of South Africa and South African Theological Seminary, a Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence at Greenville College/University and Chairperson of the Association of Theological Institutions in Eastern Africa.
Prof. Byaruhanga is a registered member of academic associations such as the Association of Third World Theologians, the Uganda Society and the International Association for Mission Studies.
